Taken at Lambert’s Beach via Slade Point, this series captures Adria and Brendan Dodds alongside their dog Asher.
The concept is simple: the bride can let her guard down about preserving her dress and just have fun! This novel concept turns the typical bridal photography concept on its head. And it produced some lively and wonderful shots of this lovely pair (and Asher) in a setting they all enjoyed.
About the Experience
Adria and Brendan were married on Adria’s family property. They had a country-style wedding that really reflected who they are and what they both love.
However, they wanted a little more than that when it came to adding some images to their wedding photography. They were looking for something a little bit different than the traditional country look. Adria first contacted us about the ‘Trash the Dress’ concept and we talked it over.
While her husband was a bit reluctant, it didn’t take him long to warm up and really enjoy all the fun. Their dog Asher needed no encouragement and joined in the wet and wild fun straight away!
Adria bravely got right into the warm water and stayed careful from getting caught up in the strong current undertow. It didn’t take long for her to become soaking wet! Of course, that’s what I wanted to see as her photographer (and I got a little (or a lot) soaked as well)!
We captured quite a few shots in and out of the water and rolling around in the sand – just having lots of fun. It didn’t take much time for the prevailing winds to dry the dress right out. This gave me a chance to photograph some beautiful, romantic images of the couple. And it produced a few timeless images for Adria and Brendan that will last them a lifetime.
Most people hold their breath a little bit at the thought of a ‘Trash the Wedding Dress’ photography concept. And to be honest, I can’t blame them! After all, we’re all taught that the wedding dress is a sacred object. And until that bride walks down the aisle, we all do our part to keep the dress protected and preserved.
But once the wedding is over and a bride and groom are happily married, what happens to the dress? For many brides, the dress is never resold to the secondary market. Instead, it simply sits in a closet – gathering dust and going unused.
Why not put the entire preservation notion to rest – and have fun while doing it? That’s what ‘Trash the Dress’ is all about. And that’s why I love the concept so much.
